I am SO tired of idiot drivers. I am convinced that 75-90% of traffic is not caused by too many cars but rather by bad driving. Of course, when there are fewer cars on the road, the rough edges get smoothed out. But when there’s a critical mass of stupid drivers (as is inevitably the case in DC at 9am on a Thursday), viola! Traffic!
So in my quest to assist my fellow human beings, this blog will occasionally feature entries on how to improve your driving skills. Today’s lesson:
THE BOTTOM LINE OF DRIVING: If you can’t stand the heat, get off the road.
This means that you should only drive in conditions that you are fully capable of handling. Driving demands that you devote the proper attention and care to it, otherwise you end up endangering yourself and others (part of that danger might be the psychological damage you inflict on me with your stupidity).
In practical terms: if you are careless or clumsy, don’t drive on a narrow, windy road. If you have a hard time paying attention while driving, don’t drive in heavy traffic. If you don’t like going fast, stay off major freeways (and PLEASE don’t drive in the left-most lane). If you are claustrophobic, don’t drive on English roads. (You get the point)
You might be a bad driver if…
- You go for a leisurely drive on the DC Beltway at 8:30am on a Wednesday
- Your idea of “fast times” is hitting 60 in the left lane on a major interstate
- You can’t figure out why drivers keep tailgating you and flashing their lights
- At any given moment, you don’t know how fast (i.e. slow) you are really going
I’ll have more details about this as well as other driving tips… stay tuned.
